Fishing the Isles
Fishing is the heart of the Sundered Isles. The Isles are their own fishing zone stocked with 24 custom fish, and what bites depends on the time of day and the weather — some fish only show at night, and the rarest only surface during storms. Work your way up the island rods, match them with the right bait, and try to land every species.
All the rods and baits below are bought from Maren, the island's Artifact Trader, with Suns.
Island rods
The five rods form a progression ladder — each one bites faster, dredges up less junk, and reaches rarer fish than the last. The top two also start pulling up sunken treasure.
| Rod | Cost (Suns) | Enchants | What it's good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coralwood Rod | 5,000 | — | Starter rod; lands island fish but hauls plenty of junk |
| Sun-Kissed Rod | 15,000 | Lure I | Faster bites and less junk |
| Tidal Rod | 35,000 | Lure II, Luck of the Sea I | Solid all-rounder; can reel up message bottles |
| Abyssal Angler | 75,000 | Lure III, Luck of the Sea II | Rich catches, barely any junk, and frequent sunken treasure |
| The Golden Catch | 150,000 | Lure V, Luck of the Sea III | The best rod — top catch rates and the best shot at treasure |
WARNING
Island rods wear out with use and can't be repaired or smithed — when one breaks, you buy the next. Treat them as the cost of doing business, and upgrade as your Suns allow.
Bait
Bait is consumed each cast and pulls in better fish. Match it to your rod tier:
| Bait | Cost (Suns) | Pulls in |
|---|---|---|
| Sundered Bait | 200 each · 3,200 for 16 | Common and uncommon island fish |
| Rare Sundered Bait | 500 each · 8,000 for 16 | Rare and legendary island fish — and often an extra catch |
Use Sundered Bait with the starter rods (Coralwood, Sun-Kissed) and Rare Sundered Bait with the higher tiers (Tidal, Abyssal Angler, The Golden Catch) to chase the rarest species.
The catch
The Isles hold 24 species, spread across rarity tiers and split by when they appear. The harder a fish is to find, the more it's worth — and every species you catch counts toward the collection.
| When | What you'll find |
|---|---|
| Day | Most common and uncommon species — perch, minnows, koi, pike and the like |
| Night | A handful of night-only fish, including the rare Kelpcloak Drifter |
| Storms | The rarest fish surface only in storms — the Jade Gar and, rarest of all, the Emerald Coilfish |
The rare day-only Verdant Leaper rounds out the trophy catches. Rarity drives sell value too: common reef fish sell for a handful of coins, while a storm-caught Emerald Coilfish is worth hundreds.
TIP
Chasing the last few collection entries? The rarest fish are weather- and time-locked, so save your Rare Sundered Bait for storms at night — that's your best window for the hardest species.
Sunken treasure
The Abyssal Angler and The Golden Catch don't just catch fish — they dredge up sunken treasure from the seabed. Treasure pulls include:
- Pearls — the most common find, and the material you need to unlock Maren's shop and craft island gear.
- Vibrant Shards, Hardened Leather, and Hardened Steel — valuable crafting materials.
- Nautilus Shells, and rarely a Heart of the Sea — the jackpot pull.
Because treasure is where Pearls and Hardened Leather come from, the better rods double as your supply line for unlocking the island's shops and crafting the Angler's Garb set.
